The Dutch philosopheur, grammarian and political thinker, an " immoderate Cartesian ", according to Leibnitz, Baruch Spinoza (1632-1677) is one of the fundamental authors associated with the history of philosophy. It is to him that we owe the Radical Substance Theory (God is the only Substance, the only Being ; the world is an entity constituted by the modes of the only two infinite attributes of substance accessible to us : extention and conscious thought). It is this theory which caused his philosophy to be considered as synonymous with radical pantheism. His works include : Theologicopolitical Treatise, Treatise On the Improvement of Understanding, Ethics Demonstrated with Geometrical Order.André Scala teaches at Université de Valenciennes, and at Lille III.
