A distinctive voice describes how individuals and churches can become agents for spiritual and cultural renewal in urban contexts. Leonce Crump is an emerging spokesman for the urban renewal movement most often associated with Tim Keller (The Reason for God). This movement attempts to reverse the drift of resources from cities, which they identify as engines of culture, to full-service church campuses in the suburbs, which are largely consumers of culture. 'How can we be agents of renewal from the suburbs?' ask these activists. In response, they advocate aggressive church planting in the urban core, calling believers to relocate if necessary, put down roots, become culture makers themselves, and live out the gospel as neighbours. Crump's first book, Renovate, aspires to be the Radical for this growing movement of younger evangelicals. Not simply a profile of his fast-growing, transcultural church, Crump's book lays out a vision for holistic renewal in the city, and shows in story and practical example how Christ-followers are called to make it happen.
