The Fukushima nuclear power plants accidents after earthquake in March 2011 have invoked world s attention to the relationship between science, technology and society in such a high-technology society as Japan. For example, how the nuclear power plants are embedded in Political/Economical/Social Contexts in Japan? Under what kind of relationships between science, technology, and society such accidents produced? In addition, how these relationships are constructed historically? This book provides case analysis on Triple Disaster (earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear power plants) for first two questions and also provides analysis on Minamata disease (Mercury pollution), Itai-Itai Disease (Cadmium pollution), BSE, and GMOs for the last question. Most of STS (Science, Technology, and society) research is sensitive to cultural context and localities, laying weight on contextuality and contingencies, whereas natural sciences focus on globalization and standardization. At the same time, careful observation also reveals the fact that there are some concepts available globally, not only to Japanese case but also U.S. and European cases.
