The revision of the International Encyclopedia of Education will be comprehensive and cutting edge with the inclusion of a range of topics which builds upon the current edition. The new edition will update the treatment of past topics but also extend them in terms of the ongoing developments and emerging interests and developments. Certainly, global developments will be addressed, but also indigenous developments and concerns that have arisen or become heightened in the past decade. Each volume will include commentary by the Editors in Chief and each sub-discipline will include introductory remarks by the Section Editors. The commentaries should afford a multi-layering of perspectives to help with navigating the topics and discerning the trends within and across fields of study. In so doing the Encyclopedia can serve topic-specific purposes as well as be enlisted in a fashion which binds together separate entries. The goals of this edition are:• Internationalize the Encyclopedia on education—i.e., “Internationalizing education. To this end, we will be pursuing entries that afford comprehensive reviews of the research in various areas, but also include illustrations/examples from regions, nations, locations--situated and contrastive (i.e. rather than exemplars serving transferability rather than generalizability avoiding standardization and homogenizations)• Have entries that animate topics. Each entry will address the state of research, theory and practice in a fashion that is both historic and developmental. Each entry will be expected to be pertaining to forward looking and dynamic, not static, or not just descriptive. Our goal is to have entries that stimulate reflection and serve as a springboard for advances dealing with new formations, new arguments, new theories and offering future directions The sections and entries afford comprehensive reviews of the research in various areas, but also include illustrations/examples from regions, nations, locations--situated and contrastive (i.e. rather than exemplars serving transferability rather than generalizability avoiding standardization and homogenizations) Entries animate topics.
