Visual Culture is an innovative anthology addressing current topics of interest in the field of visual culture. Designed to contribute to an expanding theoretical framework for considering visual culture, the anthology brings together a range of topics and approaches from diverse perspectives. Set up to reveal interplay between cross-disciplinary areas of study, the anthology will identify emerging social/cultural/political phenomena.§The priority for the fields of visual culture at present is to engage with critically important cultural and political issues. In the present globalized context, the urgency of understanding the terrain of visual culture from a multitude of perspectives--especially political/economic developments in the post-9/11 world--compels us to explore a range of key issues. Categories such as regimes of war, the links between technology and power, and the increased presence of visual technologies in everyday life animate Visual Culture. The text explores themes such as consumption and visuality, race and gender, technology and control, imperialism and postcolonialism, art and aesthetics, and history and trauma. Essays selected for inclusion in Visual Culture address multiple interpretations of the visual, from considerations of the "everyday" to global political contexts.
