This vintage book contains a collection of twelve classic fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen with illustrations by Dugald Stewart Walker. Hans Christian Andersen (1805 - 1875) was a Danish writer. He wrote many poems, travelogues, and plays, but he is most famous for his fairy tales, which have been translated into over 125 languages and continue to have a significant influence on western popular culture. Some of his most famous tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Mermaid", and "The Ugly Duckling". This timeless collection would make for a worthy addition to any bookshelf and is not to be missed by fans and collectors of Anderson's seminal work. Contents include: "The Mermaid", "The Flying Trunk", "The Red Shoes", "Thumbelisa", "The Girl Who Trod on a Loaf", "The Nightingale", "The Garden of Paradise", "The Wind's Tale", "The Snow Queen", "What The Moon Saw", "The Marsh King's Daughter", and "The Travelling Companions". These tales are accompanied by the beautiful and intricate illustrations of Dugald Stewart Walker. Walker was one of the most highly-celebrated illustrators of children's books during the early twentieth century and are best remembered for the lavish, magical realm that they frequently described. He is perhaps best known for his contributions to "Fairy Tales from Hans Christian Andersen" (1914), but also illustrated books such as "The Boy who Knew what the Birds Said" and "Dream Boats and Other Stories". Pook Press celebrates the great 'Golden Age of Illustration' in children's classics and fairy tales - a period of unparalleled excellence in book illustration. We publish rare and vintage Golden Age illustrated books, in high-quality colour editions, so that the masterful artwork and story-telling can continue to delight both young and old.
