Extrinsic staining usually occurs due to certain oral habits or poor oral hygiene. The intrinsic stains, on the other hand, may be caused due to a number of conditions like trauma, fluorosis, intake of drugs like Tetracycline or Minocycline at the time of formation of dentition, erythroblastosis foetalis, porphyria, dentinogenesis imperfecta and hypocalcification during tooth formation.
