Dieser Band dokumentiert die Resultate einer 2011 in Peking durchgeführten Tagung, an der chinesische und deutsche GermanistInnen beteiligt waren. Der Gegenstand der Aufsätze ist die Imagination Chinas in der deutschsprachigen Literatur von 1827 bis 1988. Behandelt werden Werke von Goethe, Schiller, Fontane, Karl Kraus, Brecht, Kafka, Döblin, Vicki Baum, Hermann Kinder und Michael Krüger. In der Regel kommt es dabei zu perspektivischen Doppelinterpretationen - aus chinesischer und deutscher Sicht. Zugleich kann die Übereinstimmung und die Differenz unterschiedlicher Wissenschaftsstile am Beispiel studiert werden. Eine Auswahlbibliographie zum Thema schließt den Band ab.
