Biopolymers are polymers produced by living organisms and contain monomeric units that are covalently bonded to form larger structures. In recent years, excipient development has become major area of research in pharmaceutical drug delivery because it influences the formulation development and drug delivery process in various ways. In modern pharmaceutical science biopolymers are choice of research as excipient because of their low toxicity, biocompatibility, biodegrability, stability and renewable nature. In this project work chitosan based CH-CFX and CH-NFX prodrug conjugates have been successfully synthesized by using isopropyl alcohol/water and glacial acetic acid mixture and the film was made by solution casting method. The FTIR spectrum result showed that chitosan-ciprofloxacin (CH-CFX) & chitosan-norfloxacin (CH-NFX) complex exhibit an electrostatic interaction between NH2 group of chitosan and COO- group of both ciprofloxacin and norfloxacin. The physical parameters were analyzed by X- ray diffraction pattern (XRD), and morphology by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry.
