Active Noise Control (ANC) is an emerging research area. It has reached a stage in its development at which systems are commercially available for critical noise problems. The most successful ANC system is active noise cancelling headphone, which is an essential component of a pilot's toolbox. Active noise control HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air conditioning) system is another example.
